Pakūranga skyline changes
Our Eastern Busway project team installed eight large concrete beams during three nights in February to form the span of Rā Hihi (flyover) above Tī Rākau Drive in Pakūranga.
The logistics to place the beams safely and accurately required months of careful preparation and a sizeable team of specialists and equipment to ensure every part of the complex sequence went smoothly. New Zealand’s largest mobile crane lifting the spans ran on 100% hydrogenated vegetable oil instead of diesel for this work, reducing its carbon emissions by 70%.
The Eastern Busway project is being delivered by an alliance of Auckland Transport with Fletcher Construction, ACCIONA, AECOM, and Jacobs in partnership with mana whenua.
