In a milestone moment for the Eastern Busway project and Rā Hihi (flyover) in Pakūranga, the first of eight beams was placed across Tī Rākau Drive in the early hours of February 3. Hon Simeon Brown, MP for Pakūranga, visited the work in progress before dawn on his way to Wellington and is pictured with Eastern Busway alliance project director Matt Zame.
When all eight beams are in place, they will form one span of Rā Hihi, which is due to be completed ahead of schedule as part of the busway project. Rā Hihi will provide a direct connection between the South Eastern Highway and Pakūranga Road, improving traffic flow around the Pakūranga Town Centre and making local trips quicker and easier.
The Eastern Busway project is being delivered by an alliance of Auckland Transport with Fletcher Construction, ACCIONA, AECOM and Jacobs in partnership with mana whenua.
