Brian Perry Civil to construct Wellington Water’s Silverstream Pipe Bridge
Brian Perry Civil is proud to have been chosen to construct the Silverstream Pipe Bridge for Wellington Water. The project will replace a critical pipe, currently running along the Fergusson Drive road bridge, which supplies treated drinking water to all of Porirua City and 40% of Wellington City. To improve earthquake resilience, the new pipe will be placed on its own structure, fitted alongside a new cycleway bridge across Te Awa Kairangi Hutt River.
Contracts Manager Hayden Chapman says BPC’s team is re-engineering the design of the bridge to avoid working in the river channel. “If the bridge cannot be lifted in to place in a single lift, temporary piers would need to be constructed in the river, which has the added risk of being washed away during a flood event.”
BPC has partnered with Holmes Consulting (NZ) for structural and geotechnical design and Eastbridge Ltd. for the construction of the steel bridge.
